ANAHEIM Martin Jones Jersey , Calif. (AP) — A fresh start was exactly what the Anaheim Ducks needed.Kevin Boyle made 35 saves in his first career start and the Ducks beat the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 Wednesday night in general manager Bob Murray’s first game as interim coach.Jakob Silfverberg scored to help Anaheim end a seven-game losing streak, a skid which prompted Murray to fire coach Randy Carlyle on Sunday and take over for the rest of the season. The 64-year-old Murray had never coached professionally at any level but got the response he had been looking for, with Silfverberg scoring 6:30 into the first period to give the Ducks their first lead since getting the opening goal in a 5-1 loss at St. Louis on Jan. 23.“If you look at it, it wasn’t a clean game from us,” Silfverberg said. “We can always improve, but at the same time we’ll take a win however it looks right now. Hopefully this will get a huge load off our back and we can start building off this.”Anaheim didn’t offer much aesthetically, generating one shot during three power-play opportunities and often struggling to cleanly get the puck out of its own zone. But the Ducks did play with a feisty edge throughout the increasingly chippy game Womens Melker Karlsson Jersey , showing the emotion and pushback Murray believed had been lacking as they dropped 19 of their previous 21 games to plummet into last place in the Western Conference.Veteran forward Ryan Kesler got into a fight with Josh Leivo less than two minutes after Silfverberg scored, and Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf scrapped with Erik Gudbranson in the second period.Silfverberg felt the Ducks channeled that passion in the right way to earn their first victory since a road win over New Jersey on Jan. 19.“Emotion is something we’ve been kind of missing, but at the same time you got to do it the right way,” Silfverberg said. “You can’t just go out there and try to look to run guys over cause then you’re going to be spending the rest of the game in the penalty box and you’re not going to have any fun.”Murray certainly seemed to be making the most of his unexpected time on the bench, offering a sheepish grin when he was shown on camera to start the game. Despite delegating tasks such as line changes to assistants Mark Morrison and Marty Wilford, Murray admitted the game was much faster from his new vantage point after years of watching from up high.“I always told you it’s very easy upstairs, but it was good Adidas John Moore Jersey ,” Murray said. “I enjoyed being around the guys and, again, tonight everything was positive so it was easier.”It helped that Murray had the benefit of Boyle, a 26-year-old undrafted rookie, joining John Gibson as the second Ducks goalie to record a shutout in his first NHL start.Boyle made a series of difficult saves and caught a break when Canucks rookie Elias Pettersson hit the crossbar with a powerful slap shot during a power play in the first period.“If you didn’t watch what pucks went in the net tonight, you would’ve been really happy with our game,” Canucks coach Travis Green said.Jacob Markstrom made 21 saves for Vancouver Tim Heed Jersey , which has lost four straight road games.NOTES: Ducks D Cam Fowler played in his 595th game for Anaheim, passing Ruslan Salei for most appearances by a defenseman in team history. … Gibson was placed on injured reserve because of back, neck and head injuries.UP NEXTCanucks: Visit Los Angeles on Thursday night.Ducks: Host Boston on Friday night. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson drew a tough assignment in his return from a lower-body injury: Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.Turns out he was up for the challenge.Gibson made 30 saves, Ryan Kesler scored early in the third period and the Ducks held on for a 3-2 win over the Oilers on Friday night.Gibson had missed four straight games. Corey Perry also scored for the Ducks, who are tied with San Jose and Calgary for third place in the Pacific Division with 64 points.”Gibby has been playing unreal,” said defenseman Hampus Lindholm Womens Tomas Hertl Jersey , who had a goal and an assist. ”He’s a world-class goalie. Everybody knows that. It was nice to see him back in the net.”Ducks coach Randy Carlyle credited Gibson’s efforts in the second period with helping the team regain its composure and setting the stage for Kesler to tip in Lindholm’s shot 3:04 into the third for a 3-1 lead. Gibson stopped all five shots he faced on the penalty kill, including a dangerous one-timer by Leon Draisaitl off a precision pass through the slot by McDavid.”We started turning the puck over and they had us hemmed in the zone,” Carlyle said. ”We took two penalties and our penalty killing provided us with the opportunity to get into the third (still leading). That was the difference, and usually your best penalty-killer is your goaltender.”Anton Slepyshev and Kris Russell scored for the Oilers, who dropped the first two games of their three-game California trip. Cam Talbot made 31 saves.Anaheim jumped in front 2:28 into the first period on Lindholm’s eighth goal. Lindholm’s shot struck Edmonton defenseman Andrej Sekera in the leg and redirected past Talbot. It was the fifth time in the Oilers’ last six games that they allowed the opening goal. They are 9-22-2 when the opponent scores first.Edmonton has trailed at least 2-0 in each of those five games after Perry scored his 11th goal at 15:50 of the second. Ryan Getzlaf caught Russell’s attempt to clear the puck with his left hand and fed Perry, who scored for the third time in four games.”I will take a lot of the heat on this one because that stuff can’t happen,” Russell said. ”I just need to make the safe play. It makes it harder on our team and harder on our goaltenders when you give up chances like that.”Perry is on a four-game point streak Adidas Jaroslav Halak Jersey , with three goals and four assists in that span. Getzlaf had an assist for the third consecutive game.Slepyshev scored on a breakaway at 16:58 of the second, making it 2-1. Sekera also departed after being struck by a puck. He played just 3:30.Oilers coach Todd McLellan said Caggiula and Sekera are questionable to play against San Jose on Saturday.McDavid found a streaking Russell to cut the Ducks’ lead to 3-2 at 14:55 of the third. The Oilers nearly tied it off the ensuing faceoff on a shot by Mark Letestu, but the Ducks were able to close out the game, with Kesler winning two late face-offs.”You really can’t push for anything more from your guys because you know that there has been a lot of hockey played and road trips and whatnot,” Carlyle said. ”Just find a way to be the difference, and tonight we were lucky enough to get that done.”NOTES: Oilers D Adam Larsson missed his fifth straight game following the death of his father. … The Ducks assigned G Retto Berra and LW Nic Kerdiles to their AHL affiliate in San Diego prior to the game.UP NEXTOilers: Visit the Sharks on Saturday night.Ducks: Host the Sharks on Sunday.—
